How You're Destroying Your Chances of Weight Loss

I bet you have a checklist of what your ideal body looks like. But deep down you have convinced yourself it comes down to genetics, living in the gym and salads.

What if I told you all of that was bullshit.

The truth is the difference between maintaining your current weight and maintaining your goal weight is only 100-200 calories a day.

What's standing between 120lbs and 160lbs is only 200 calories a day. Now add some real muscle (not that bs “toning” jargon crap), and you my dear are rockin a killer bod.

Having a killer body is doable...as long as you are consistent.

But this is where women fall off and totally funk it up.

Let's figure out what mistakes you're making currently that are stalling any chance for progress and exactly what you need to do to fix it.

First step - get the weight off.

Second step - maintain it.

So yes, you’re going to have to be intentional, get focused and be consistent. Because at this point you are not at your goal weight, and you are not trying to maintain. You have to earn that lifestyle.

Here’s how NOT to earn it:

During the week you count your calories and religiously stay within your 1400 daily recommended calories for weight loss. You get your ass to the gym everyday Monday through Friday.

But then on the weekend you simply ignore your goals completely. You don’t second guess drinking empty calories, eating whatever and skipping the gym, because it’s the weekend and you deserve to have fun.

Well then if you are lucky you might be able to maintain your current weight - but that’s not your goal.

Here’s how NOT to earn it:

You’re having a bad day (or maybe a really really good day lol), and you decided to just eat and drink whatever you want and completely go over your calories...like by so much you’d rather just pretend it didn’t happen and...

then the next day to rectify the situation, you skip meals and do excessive cardio, only to repeat the cycle again and again.

Here, you’re just messing with your metabolism. After a while the weight will inevitably creep upwards year after year. You will have to do more and more cardio but to no avail you will lose the battle of the bulge.

Here’s how NOT to earn it:

You hate “dieting and any kind of restriction.” You eat whatever you want and live your life for the treadmill. This is the worst option, especially if you want to build muscle and boost your metabolism.

Cardio burns muscle as fuel, not just fat. The more cardio you do the more muscle breaks down for fuel (think about a marathon runner’s body). On top of that when you eat more then you need in any given day your body stores excess calories as glycogen in the muscle and as fat on your midsection.

So over time you put on more fat and lose more muscle...opposite of strong, sexy and sculpted.

Do any of these scenarios sound like you? If so this is your barrier to weight loss and reaching your ideal body.

The answer is eliminating the all or nothing mindset.

Let’s break it down.

  1. Commit to 4-6 days a week to working out. Yes it may seem like a lot, but if you don’t get quick results right out the gate you will lose what they call “success momentum.” And that is a huge part of getting and keeping the ball rolling. I’ll go over that more in a future blog.

  2. Lift heavy every day. What’s heavy? Generally you need to fatigue the muscle within 6-12 reps. If you are breezing through 15-20 reps, go heavier.

  3. Do the right amount of cardio. If you are eating healthy you shouldn't need more then 20-30 minutes a day. Want some specific guidance on what kind of cardio you should be doing for your body type and goals, and for how long? Check out my blog How to Create a Cardio Routine that Gets Results

  4. Recognize goal sabotaging habits and replace them with healthy habits to help overcome your weight loss obstacles.

  5. Be conscious of what you are eating and track your calories everyday.

  6. Get knowledgeable guidance and support to keep you on track, focused and motivated.

  7. Change your mindset. You have to tell yourself why "you want to” workout and eat healthy. Don’t tell yourself you "have to.” This is NOT a punishment and you are not a victim. If you tell yourself that then you are setting yourself up for failure.
